Dr. Reva N. Adler is Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of British Columbia and focuses on working with older adult survivors of genocide, and violence prevention research. In 2006, Dr. Adler completed the first phase of the study Addressing the Root Causes of Genocide (ARC-G), funded by the Fulbright Scholarship Board of the US Department of State, the University of British Columbia and the Vancouver Coastal Research Institute. Targeting long-range prevention of genocide, the ARC-G programme is the first public health-based initiative designed to ascertain and transform attitudes that lead to genocidal behaviour amongst potential rank-and-file combatants, long before incitements by malicious governments arise.
Dr. Adler has been invited to participate in a number of international consortia addressing genocide prevention, including the Stockholm International Forum, the Tenth Anniversary Conference Commemorating the Rwandan Genocide, and the Global Futures Forum of the Department of Homeland Security. She has consulted on issues of primary violence prevention to the UN Office of the Special Rapporteur on Genocide Prevention, the U.S. State Department, the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission and Senate of the Republic of Rwanda, the African Union, and USAID. Dr. Adler is the author of numerous publications and presentations focusing on the impact of genocide on the health of global populations, the impact of genocide survivorship on the health of older adults, and an approach to genocide prevention within a public health paradigm. She resides with her family in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
