Eugene Bushayija

Eugene Bushayija was born in Rwanda in 1964 and has lived in Sweden since 1990. He had university degrees in physics and mathematics and is currently completing a Masters Degree in Human Resources Management.

He is a Human Resources manager and since 1994 has worked for Medecins Sans Frontieres, an international humanitarian medical organization that works mainly in humanitarian crisis situations and has a mandate to save lives and alleviate suffering of victims of crisis around the world.

"Besides my personal experience of losing my dearest ones during the genocide in Rwanda, I have, through my work and commitment, witnessed the suffering of people who, as victims of humanitarian crises, have lost everything. This includes people in, for example, Afghanistan, Somalia, South Sudan (Bahr el Gazal), Darfur, Sudan, and Burundi.

"I am daily challenged to reflect, create, debate, and identify best options to support the work of memorialization of the victims of genocide in Rwanda and other countries where the crime of genocide has been perpetrated. Likewise, I feel I have a duty to locate mechanisms to alleviate the suffering of survivors and helping to restore their dignity. I consider my being a member of the PGEF Advisory Board as part of that mission."
