Smail Cekic

Smail Cekic is a professor at the Faculty of political science and Director of the Institute for Research of Crimes Against Humanity and International Law, University of Sarajevo.

Professor Cekic served as a member and vice president of the Commission for Investigation of Events That Occurred in and Around Srebrenica in the period from 10th to 19th of July 1995. In addition to this, he is currently a member and one of the presidents of the Commission for investigation of Truth About the Atrocities Against Serbs, Croats, Bosniaks, Jews and others in Sarajevo between 1992 and 1995.

Cekic is a member of the World Society of Victimology, and the International Association of Genocide Scholars.

Research interests of Professor Cekic include a variety of topics in the field of genocide studies, military history, and historiography. Special emphasis in his research is placed on researching political history of the Balkans area and crimes against Bosniaks in the Second World War and in recent aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. For his research efforts in the area of genocide studies and contribution to development of research oriented activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Professor Cekic has been given numerous awards in and outside of Bosnia.

He has published a variety of books and articles on the wide range of topics and has participated in many scientific gatherings and conferences.
